Mrs. Ramirez is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and is a distinguished graduate of St. Mary’s University where she received her Master’s degree in Catholic School Leadership.
Mrs. Ramirez has been a certified educator for over 20 years with 10 years of administrative experience, and has been blessed to serve 18 of those years right here at St. Anthony Catholic School. She has seen the school grow in faith and numbers. Mrs. Ramirez is privileged to serve as St. Anthony’s principal and has made it her mission to uphold the Catholic values and high academic standards established by the Sisters of Divine Providence in 1907, while meeting the needs of 21st century learners
Blanca Marquez-Sanchez received her Bachelor’s in English and her Master’s in Education Leadership at the University of Texas as San Antonio. She taught
English at Northeast I.S.D for nine years. Mrs. Sanchez also has Catholic school teaching experience as she comes to St. Anthony Catholic School from
Incarnate Word High School.
Mrs. Sanchez will never forget the genuine welcome she received from the faculty and staff on her first day at St. Anthony. It warms her heart to see students lending a helping hand, encouraging their peers, and exhibiting sincere kindness each day. She is honored to be a part of this familial community and is committed to making St. Anthony Catholic School the best learning environment for its students.
Mrs. Sanchez is married and has an eight year old son and ten year old daughter. She enjoys watching her children play tennis and attending her son’s soccer games. Relaxing at Starbucks and doing a little shopping with her daughter is one of her favorite things to do on the weekends. Once summer comes around, Mrs. Sanchez looks forward to visiting family, spending time at the beach, and having gatherings with friends.
Chief Operating Officer
Christopher Escobedo attended the University of Oklahoma and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. Mr. Escobedo loves St. Anthony Catholic School because it’s a family community which welcomes a diverse student body. The community has been a part of his existing family for the past 13 years. He has enjoyed this unique experience and looks forward to sharing it with future families.
Kristen Carmona is a Sam Houston State University graduate. She received her Master’s degree in Family and Child Studies at Texas State University. St. Anthony Catholic School offers an environment that allows Kristen to blend her education and professional experience with her personal values, faith, and beliefs in order to advance the mission of the school. Kristen loves St. Anthony Catholic School for its vision and mission, rich traditions, and close-knit community.
Ms. Glennis Richter attended the University of Texas at Austin and Austin Community College and serves as our Collections Manager. She is passionate about being part of SACS, believing that
Instilling morals, values and structure in the students is what shapes them to be well-rounded individuals. The students are the future, and the St. Anthony community whole-heartedly invests in them.
Karen Gonzalez attended San Antonio College and Sul Ross State University. Ms. Gonzalez loves going to work each morning because of the school’s close-knit family environment. She believes the combination of academic excellence and the familial feel that St. Anthony encompasses makes it a unique educational environment.
Steve Wire, M.A. will be St. Anthony Catholic School’s counselor for this academic school year. He received his master’s in school counseling from TX A&M University- San Antonio and a bachelor’s of fine arts in theatre from TX State University- San Marcos. This will be his first year with St. Anthony as the school counselor. He began his teaching career in theatre arts and speech.
Mr. Wire’s expertise in directing youth theatre camps that focused on building character, relationships, and self-empowerment skills ultimately lead him
to counseling and guidance. Infusing the creative arts and mental health practices to help children and adults develop their own voice, academic success,
and positive relationships within the community is a primary goal for him. He is very excited and honored to be joining St. Anthony Catholic School
to implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program to meet the needs of the students and community that supports them. When Mr. Wire is not
working on research or building a set for a corporate event, he can be found playing with his sons and daughters strumming a guitar on the back patio
with the smell of Texas BBQ in the air.
Ms. Morrell is a graduate of Abilene Christian University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. As a registered nurse, Ms. Morrell has worked in hospital environments but loves being able to work in a Catholic school where she can meet both the children’s spiritual and physical needs.
Rosemary Galvan received her Associates Degree in Child Development from San Antonio College. She has been a part of the St. Anthony community since 2007. Mrs. Galvan loves the families and community at St. Anthony. She enjoys working with the children and watching them learn and grow each day.
Mrs. Anissa Lizcano prides herself in being a St. Anthony alum and staff member since 2012. She is currently attending the University of the Incarnate Word where she is working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Ms. Anissa loves working at the school where she grew up in and hopes that she is making a lasting impression on her students like her teachers did for her!
Diana Manson holds an Associate in Applied Science (Child Development). She has extensive experience as a pre-school teacher and experience as a director of a child care center. Ms. Manson loves that the St. Anthony community is made up of very special people who help create a loving, learning environment for all! It is her hope that her teaching brings a sense of joy and discovery on the journey of learning with her students.
Ms. Hernandez attended San Antonio College and holds an Associate Degree in Early Childhood.
Ms. Priscilla loves the children at St. Anthony Catholic School. She enjoys the community and feels like the school is her extended family. Ms. Hernandez also loves the parents and appreciates the support they give the faculty and staff.
Jennifer Martinez has been part of the St. Anthony community since 1996. She is a graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word and received her Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education from Texas A&M University, Kingsville. Mrs. Martinez is also St. Anthony’s 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year. St. Anthony Catholic School is Mrs. Martinez’ second home. She knows that she can go to work and see hundreds of smiling, happy faces because it is such a loving, nurturing environment.
Stephanie Mata is a graduate from St. Edward's University. She also received a M.A in Communication from University of the Incarnate Word. Mrs. Mata attended The University of Texas at San Antonio to acquire her teacher certification. Mrs. Mata believes the pride of the community and the administration, faculty and staff is what makes St. Anthony such a special school.
Delores attended Southern Illinois University, Delta State Jr. College and Our Lady of the Lake University majoring in Math. Ms. Butler enjoys working at St. Anthony Catholic School because the education the school provides sets the bar for learning. She believes the school ignites a love for learning in children at a young age, so it will follow them throughout their lives.
Marissa Figueroa is a St. Mary’s University graduate and received her teacher certification from Texas A&M Kingsville. She has both public and private school teaching experience. St. Anthony has always felt like home to Mrs. Figueroa. While she never attended the school, both her younger sisters graduated from St. Anthony Catholic School and her own three boys attend the school. Mrs. Figueroa loves the location, community, and rich traditions of the school.
Rita Rodriguez received both a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts in Education (Special Education) from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has been a part of the St. Anthony community since 2007. Mrs. Rodriguez loves the students who attend the school; they are amazing children who bring joy to her life on a daily basis.

Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Texas A&M International University and earned a Bachelor of Science Bilingual EC-4th in 2005. She has Catholic
school experience in Laredo and San Antonio. She continues her love of teaching at St. Anthony Catholic School. She believes the SACS staff is amazing
and extremely dedicated to helping not only each other but also the students. She loves that St. Anthony students are always helpful and loving.
1st Grade Teacher
Ms. Sonnen is a St. Mary’s University graduate and received her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has been teaching at St. Anthony Catholic School since 1997! Ms. Sonnen loves the school’s rich history, culture, tradition and community. Teaching for 19 years at St. Anthony, Ms. Sonnen has seen the school grow and double in size.
2nd Grade Teacher
Ms. Smith graduated from Central Michigan University and The University of Texas at San Antonio where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and teacher certification. It is a joy for Ms. Smith to teach at St. Anthony Catholic School – she has been teaching at St. Anthony for 22 years! She believes that St. Anthony Catholic School provides a well-rounded education for all students with an emphasis on following in Jesus’ footsteps.
2nd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Gonzalez is a proud graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University. She has been teaching at St. Anthony Catholic School since 2007 and has been an educator in the Catholic schools for 22 years.
She loves that St. Anthony Catholic School is driven by love, and it can be seen and felt through the work of teachers and staff, students, and parents. Mrs. Gonzalez loves that everyone knows and respects one another and feels that the school is a big family.
3rd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Thomas is a University of Texas San Antonio graduate. As a certified teacher, she has a variety of rich teaching experience in both the private and public schools. The sense of community is what Mrs. Thomas loves about SACS. She values the teachers and staff as they are always supporting each other and each child, to bring out the best in everyone. Mrs. Tomas appreciates the parents because they are supportive and always ready to help where needed.
3rd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Cantara is a proud Longhorn who graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and is a certified teacher who has over 12 years of experience both in public and Catholic schools. Mrs. Cantara loves how warm and welcoming everyone is at St. Anthony and the dedication of the teachers and parents. She also loves the campus and historical buildings combined with newness of the Benson Building.
4th Grade Teacher-Math, Science, Religion
Mrs. Espinar is a University of Texas at San Antonio graduate with over 7 years of experience in Catholic schools and Alamo Heights ISD as a certified bilingual teacher. Ms. Espinar loves being a part of the St. Anthony community because it is evident that the administration, the staff, and parents all work together to ensure that the students grow both academically and spiritually.
4th Grade Teacher- LA/Rd/SS
Mrs. Duren is a University of the Incarnate Word and Our Lady of the Lake University graduate. She has over 30 years of both private and public school experience and has received many awards during her teaching career. She has been a part of the St. Anthony community since 2008. Mrs. Duren is honored to be part of a faculty committed to educating a diverse student body in the Catholic faith, Christian values, and academic excellence.
5th Grade Teacher-Math/Sci/SS
Steven Pocrnich is a certified teacher and graduate of The College of St. Scholastica in Minnesota. For the past twenty years, Mr. Pocrnich has taught children from Alaska to North Carolina and several locations in between while supporting his wife who served in United States Army as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. When asked what he loves most about St. Anthony Catholic School, his response was, “The children. They are the most kind, personable, and well- rounded students I have ever taught. The students at St. Anthony make teaching an enjoyable challenge each and every day.”
5th Grade Teacher-LA/Rdg/Rel
Virginia Jimenez attended Texas A&M International and the University of Texas At San Antonio where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with her teaching certification. She has over ten years of experience as a Lead Instructor for both Math and Reading at Alamo Heights Kumon, and is delighted to be a teacher at St. Anthony Catholic School. She says the staff is amazing and extremely dedicated to helping children reach their fullest potential.
Middle School Dean, MS Latin/Classical Heritage Teacher
Andrew Eubanks graduated from Hendrix College and received a M.Div. from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He was an adjunct professor at Riverside Theology University in New York City and is currently an adjunct professor at The University of the Incarnate Word. Mr. Eubanks loves the school because he truly enjoys working with the other teachers, the staff and the students – ha says the students are witty, intelligent, and always full of questions, which makes teaching them a fun experience.
MS Art Teacher
Mrs. Cardona joined the St. Anthony staff in 2015 but has been an active parent since 1998. She is a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. Mrs. Cardona brings a wealth of experience as a working artist who has exhibited and been a curator at various art galleries and has had her work published in the Texas Observer and other journals.
She loves our school because teachers treat students as if they were their own.
MS Language Arts Teacher
Tricia Garza is a graduate from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She has both experience teaching in both private and public schools and is certified PK-8th, History, and English PK-8th. Mrs. Garza loves the welcoming atmosphere and helpful people she works with and enjoys teaching in a Catholic school again, so she can share not only academic knowledge, but faith knowledge.
MS History Teacher
Mr. Verkamp is a certified teacher and graduate of The University of Texas San Antonio. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in History in 1998. Mr. Verkamp has teaching experience at the Ramstein American School in Germany. Mr. Verkamp loves this school because of its open and welcoming atmosphere. From the students to the parents, teachers, and administration, everyone works together to achieve the same goal.
MS Mathematics Teacher
Mrs. Almayda is a certified teacher who graduated from the Philippine Normal University. She has worked as a mathematics teacher in the Philippines, Kansas, Maryland, and the San Antonio Archdiocese. Mrs. Almayda has received several awards in the Philippines and Baltimore City Public School District for her work with Mathematics.
Sister Luz Moreno, CSB graduated from The University of the Incarnate Word and received her MS in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University. Additionally, Sister Luz attended St. Mary’s University and earned a MA in Theology. Sister Luz has 42 years of teaching experience. Sister Luz loves to help students encounter God through Scripture, the Sacraments and our daily interaction. She sees the great effort parents make in having their children here at St. Anthony and she strives to support them.
Ms. Garrastazu graduated from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. She also has a M.A. in Elementary Education from John Hopkins University, Maryland. She has taught in public school in Maryland and has San Antonio Catholic school teaching experience. Ms. Garrastazu believes that St. Anthony Catholic School is a wonderful community for her and her son; she days the students’ energy and inquisitiveness inspire her to make them successful.
Technology Director, Technology Teacher
A graduate of Trinity University, Mr. Morrell formed and operated his own graphic design business for nearly ten years. This practical experience provides him with a unique perspective, insight and passion to teach technology elective courses. Mr. Morrell is currently in his sixth year at St. Anthony Catholic School serving as the Technology Director and technology teacher for the middle school. Mr. Morell loves the student’s interest in his technology classes and the creativity that he sees in them every day.
Kathy Guerra attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of North Texas, and St. Mary's University where she obtained her Master’s degree in Library Science. She has 10 years of experience as a certified elementary teacher and four+ years as a school librarian. Ms. Guerra loves the library and being able to work with all of the students at St. Anthony.

Mrs. Hem- Salazar is a University of Southern Mississippi/Hattiesburg and a Gulfcoast Junior College/Perkinston graduate. Mrs. Hem-Salazar is an award winning choir director who has experience with a variety of choir competitions here in the United States and abroad. She is proud to be St. Anthony Catholic School’s music teacher and choir director.

Javier Gonzales is a McMurry University graduate and has a degree in Exercise Sport Science. Coach Gonzales began coaching at St. Anthony Catholic School in 2007. He is proud to be St. Anthony Catholic School’s Athletic Director and loves St. Anthony because of the community spirit the school fosters in everyone.
PK3-5th Spanish Teacher
Joanna Suarez graduated from the Universidad del Valle de Mexico in Mexico City. She also attended Montessori Education at the Instituto Montessori de Metepec in Mexico. Ms.Suarez has six years of teaching experience at Montessori Schools in Metepec, Mexico. She is proud to be one of St. Anthony Catholic School’s Spanish teachers.

ASC Coordinator, Elementary Technology
Diana M. Lopez received her Bachelors Degree from The University of Texas San Antonio with a major in English and minor is Spanish. Soon after she realized she wanted to give teaching a try. She received her bilingual teaching certification for EC-4th through Region 20's alternative teaching program. She taught first and third grade for 5 years with South San Antonio ISD before taking a hiatus to raise her son, who is now 9 years old.
Staff and faculty at St. Anthony have been very warm and welcoming. She looks forward to getting to know everyone and especially working with students again.
Mrs. Lopez loves the outdoors and enjoys traveling with her family. She also enjoys watching her son improve his swim techniques and play baseball.
