Our school was honored to host a First Lego League Qualifier event this past Saturday, February 11th. In all, twenty-four teams representing schools throughout the city and surrounding areas competed throughout the day.

St. Anthony launched its new STEM initiative last year, and in collaboration with Monica Simpson, parent and engineer, formed a First Lego League robotics team for 4th and 5th graders- the Saint Bots. The team competed in its first qualifier and came away with the presentation award for their service project, “Pins for Bins.” This year, St. Anthony’s added a middle school robotics team- the Holy Bots, and competed again. This past week, the Saint Bots were awarded the Presentation Award, and the Holy Bots were awarded the Innovation Solution Award for their prototype design of pet prosthetic devices.

To further promote and support STEM in education, our school partnered with the Alamo First Region to host its first qualifier. Parents, staff, and community volunteers all came together to provide an excellent venue for the robotics teams.
